More organisations join anti-Bt Brinjal fast

Many organisations and individuals in Kerala will join the nation-wide one-day fast called by environmental and farming organisations across the country against Bt Brinjal. In Kerala, fasts will be organised in ten districts on Saturday.

In Thiruvananthapuram, the fast will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Mullakara Ratnakaran at the Martyrs Square, Palayam at 10.30 am. Literary and cultural personalities including O.N.V. Kurup, Sugathakumari, Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, D. Vinayachandran will join the fast. Cultural events and a candle-light vigil will mark the event in the evening.

The All India Kissan Sabha, AIYF, Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, Kerala Shastra Sahitya Parishad, Kerala Swathanthra Matsya Thozhilali Federation, Jaiva Karshaka Samithi, AIPSO, Progressive Forum, PUCL, KSSF, Swadeshi Jagran Manch, Solidarity Students Movement, Thanal, Abhaya, SEWA, SAKHI, OEOL, Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society, Kerala Sthree Vedi, Zero Waste Centre,

Chilla are among the organisations that are joining the fast.

The call for the fast in Kerala was earlier given by Mr. Rathnakaran, Ms. Sugathakumari and V. S. Vijayan, Chairman of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board.

A badge that can be used during the protest can be downloaded from www.thanal.co.in , the organisers said.
