The government on Thursday decided to include some communities in the list of Scheduled Castes in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Tripura.
In Kerala, Pulluvan and Thachar communities will be included in the list of Scheduled Caste, an official release said here.
However, the carpenters in the Thachar community will not be included in the SC list.
The Dahiya community of Madhya Pradesh and Amata, Amath, Bajia, Jaggili, Jagli and Buna Pano communities of Odisha will also be included in the SC list.
In Tripura, Chamar Rohidas, Chamar Ravidas, Dhobi and Jhalo-Malo communities will be included in the list.
The Majhi (Nepali) community in Sikkim will be excluded from the SC list, the release said.
The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved the proposal to introduce a Bill in Parliament in this regard, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said.
After the Bill becomes an Act, members of the communities included in the SC list will be able to derive benefits meant for Scheduled Castes under the existing schemes.
Some schemes of this kind include Post-Matric Scholarship, National Overseas Scholarship, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, concessional loans from national Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation, hostels for SC boys and girls.

In my point of view never categorize a person on their caste basis. It should be on the basis of income. In earlier it is necessary for backwards to get supports in all sections such as education, jobs, medical and all other important day to day needs but now the situation is different. Needed persons are not getting required supports but others getting. In my point of view if every classification is on the basis of financial background of the family then backwards (financial) can also improve their life style. It is also necessary to take survey of financial and education of every family to check whether they needed further government benefits or whether any new persons need to be included in backward category.
Now due to vote all political party members are not care about others.
The whole nation has undergone a change after India became an independent nation. The
Whole nation should be grateful to the leaders of all political parties, who were at the helm
Of affairs for this development as well. But the fact remains that there are many in the
So called forward communiities , who are on the precipice of bankruptcy as well. Let the
govt support thiose in the backward level For their uplift. Nobody will oppose that. At the
Same time, the government should not fail to give real support to those in the so called
Forward castes, who really need support, FOR THEIR SURVIVAL. This can be done easily

May I know how many communities are still pending for consideration for SC status? Further, the issue with regard to considering the status of S.C to Christian Community is long pending for the reasons better known to the authorities.Since,a larger number of members belonging to Christian Community is being deprived of many govt schemes besides job opportunities because of the delay in conferring S.C.status,immediate action may be taken without any discrimination.
Incredible! instead of going forward even after 65 years of independence, we are still going backwards. All such steps is taken for political gain and if the Government seriously was thinking of helping these castes, they should have done a review of the entire lists and removed some from the list. Presuming that these castes owing to the 50+ years of benefit derived should not still be classified as SC. Unless and until Government stop looking at the Vote banks...no development will happen to these poor people and they will be still fighting for their survivals. The rich and the top SC family will continue to gain benefits and the real poor will continue to suffer. God save them!
those who were already in the SC/ST community complaints of "torture from the higher community and have to suffer from the water to money to every facilities". then what for these new communities are added in the list of sufferers.. they are joining this to get much more offers and perks and jobs from the govt. this is one part of the story. what about those who belongs to the SC/ST and enjoying all perks from govt. and are very well settled in life since long time and their kids too getting the perks from the govt. will they removed from the SC/ST..
