In a big relief for parents of students studying in National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, all 36 students have been safely brought to New Delhi for their onward journey to respective places on Thursday.
A senior AP Bhavan official in New Delhi told The Hindu on Thursday that the students were rescued from the flood-ravaged hostel close to Hazrathbal in Srinagar. The students were put on Delhi-bound flight by local authorities. “We have made arrangements to receive and lodge them at AP Bhavan till their travel arrangements to Hyderabad and other places are taken care of,” the official said. The students in all probability would be sent to Hyderabad by available flights from this evening.
It is understood that the students faced untold misery and went without food for two days. Due to power outage, many of the their cell phones had stopped working. Boy from Warangal safe
Meanwhile, a report from Warangal said Pragnapuram Maruthi (18) from Narmetta mandal who had got caught in the floods is learnt to be safe and will return home on Thursday evening. Pragnapuram was a second year B Tech (IT) student at Srinagar. The college was flooded thereby forcing authorities to evacuate the students. It was learnt that the students had to go hungry due to floods.
The boy’s father Pragnapura Anjaiah told The Hindu on Thursday that their son was safe. The government has arranged a flight upto Delhi. “He booked flight ticket from Delhi to Hyderabad and would be here by 3 pm today,” he said.
