The monsoon session of Parliament will be held from August 5 to 30. This was decided at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs headed by Defence Minister, A.K.Antony, on Monday.

The 26-day session is expected to take up for consideration several important legislations including Land Acquisition Bill, Insurance Bill Pension Bill, Companies Bill and the Direct Tax Code Bill. Besides, the ordinance on Food Security Bill will come up for ratification.

The Congress party has been accusing the Opposition of blocking the Food Security Bill during the last Parliament Session, which witnessed repeated disruptions over a variety of issues including the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, over the coal scam.

The monsoon session assumes importance as it comes just ahead of Assembly elections in the politically sensitive States of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan, plus Mizoram.
