“Monitoring by Supreme Court is the best way”

November 30, 2010 01:58 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:27 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Communications and Information Technology Minister, Kapil Sibal, on Monday said the Centre was ready for the Supreme Court monitoring the ongoing investigations into the alleged 2G spectrum scam. He also urged the Opposition to let Parliament function so that the issue can be discussed.

“A demand for Joint Parliamentary Committee [JPC] probe into the spectrum scam should go as the Supreme Court was looking into the matter. We are not averse to monitoring by the Supreme Court…people of this country have faith and confidence in the judiciary,” he told journalists here.

“We are not protecting anyone and the monitoring by the Supreme Court is the best way to look into it. The investigating agencies are thoroughly probing the issue and we are all for transparency and justice,” he asserted.

Lamenting the stand taken by the Opposition in not allowing Parliament to function, Mr. Sibal said: “It was because of the obduracy of a few political parties, especially of the Bharatiya Janata Party, that Parliament's functioning has been stalled. The government is ready to discuss the issue on the floor of the House.”
