Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday condemned the molestation of a girl in Guwahati and said “such incidents should not be taken lightly.”
On Assam Director-General of Police J.N. Chowdhury’s reported remarks that the police were not like an “ATM machine which can be present at the crime scene the moment one inserts a card,” the Minister said nobody should take the crime lightly.
He told a press conference here that he would speak to the Assam Chief Minister on the issue.

Asked about Mr. Chidambaram’s remarks, Mr. Choudhury said in Guwahati: “I told a TV news channel, on the phone, that arresting people is not as straightforward as withdrawing cash from an ATM. I did not say, ‘don't treat the police like an ATM machine.’ I have been misquoted.”
The respected home minister is right in saying that the molestation
cases should not be treated lightly.
But what about so many innocent people jailed for years and then they
are acquitted... is this not injustice.
I believe that God is also present everywhere. Don't blame on
bystander if you do then say like it was God's fault. Bystander can
only help if they have confidence in Police and Indian judiciary that
they will not be harassed. Every man in country is loaded to fight
against the corruption and inflation and they can't be afford to be
hero and sacrifice his or her life. If somebody does then their
children may get sold in brothels and slums. It is loud and clear the
fault is corrupt Police force. It is rare that Police does not know
about gangs and goons in their area.
Can't understand what's happening in this country.Both the incident, bhagpat area antisocial khap panchayat imposed restriction on women and on the other side molestation of a school girl are quite shameful.Women's liberty is of name.I don't think condemning the situation which is generally done by our government and police officers will be of any use.Why don't they believe in action and produce strict law against these antisocial element.only then they will think twice before doing such type of crime.condemning the situation cant bring women's self respect back.God knows when will the women of this country in which goddesses are worshiped,live safely and freely.
