The transfer of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P. D. Dinkaran, facing impeachment proceedings for land grabbing charges, is likely to take place shortly, Union Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily indicated today.

“The Supreme Court Collegium has sent a recommendation to the Union Law Ministry proposing transfer of Justice Dinakaran to the High Court of Sikkim and Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court Jagadish Singh Kher to Karnataka,” he told reporters here.

“We are already moving in this direction. The file has been moved,” Moily said when asked about Justice Dinakaran, who has come under renewed attack from Justice D. V. Shylendrakumar of the state High Court for continuing to exercise administrative functions and staying away from the bench.

The advocates of the High Court have also been demanding an early decision on Justice Dinkaran.

Karnataka Law Minister S Suresh Kumar in a letter to Moily yesterday sought the Centre’s intervention to end the “unpleasant stalemate” in the High Court in the wake of Justice Dinakaran staying away from the bench since December 17, after allegations of land grabbing surfaced against him.
