Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former President Pranab Mukherjee were among thousands of people who took to Twitter to greet Congress president Rahul Gandhi on his 48 birthday.

This is Mr. Gandhi’s first birthday after taking over as the party president and unlike previous occasions, when he kept his celebrations a private affair, party leaders and workers met him at the Congress headquarters in the morning.

“Birthday greetings to Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi. I pray for his long and healthy life,” Mr. Modi tweeted.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee tweeted: “Many Happy Returns of the Day to the @INCIndia President, @RahulGandhi. You have an unparalleled legacy of Nation Building behind you and an outstanding responsibility in the future. My best wishes and blessings on your Birthday.”

“Thank you Pranab Da for your wishes and kind words. I appreciate them,” Mr. Gandhi replied.

And in a clear sign of the Congress chief’s growing presence on social media, #RahulGandhiBirthday continued to be a top trend on twitter.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav, DMK’s M.K. Stalin, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and NCP’s Praful Patel were among the leaders from regional parties who wished the Congress chief.
