The BJP has taken the cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction to the party’s MPs to come prepared to Parliament and is putting together a two-day camp to help the Members get to know each other and learn the ropes of House proceedings.
Mr. Modi will be addressing the inaugural session of camp scheduled for the end of the month. Party’s MPs will be coached on how to present a united team in Parliament, to align with the party’s line, on how to raise issues pertaining to their own constituencies as well as those with wider national ramifications at the two-day session.
As large number of elected representatives are first time MPs, the Party seniors have been called in to share their expertise, guide the newcomers and explain the proceedings that are keenly watched.
“A lot of Members are not familiar with the proceedings, some are not conversant with the issues that the Party will flag during the Budget session and this two-day camp will help them understand how they are expected to function. Mr. Modi has already made it clear that all MPs should come prepared, learn more about their constituencies and issues that affect people, who have voted in such large numbers for the BJP,” said a source.
On June 6, in his 20-minute speech in the Central Hall of Parliament, Mr. Modi had directed the Party MPs to remain in touch with the people at the grassroots and >guard against complacency .
He had also asked the MPs to do their homework before attending debates in Parliament and ensure that its dignity is maintained at all times.
“Such camps have been organised before, but this time, there is concerted effort being made to familiarise and prepare the MPs, because of the expectation that the people of this country have from the elected representatives. Mr. Modi has already issued a direction for a 100-day programme for all Ministries. He firmly believes there is no time to lose and we have to hit the ground running,” the source said.
