Avoid personal issues: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday warned the Congress to desist from attacking its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi over his marital issues.

“We are fighting these polls on the issues of corruption and inflation. If the Congress wants to bring in personal issues in it, we too can expose various issues related with the Gandhis, to which they will have no answer,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said at a press conference here.

While referring to the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Mr. Modi after he acknowledged his marital status for the first time, Mr. Javadekar said that unprecedented response to the voting had unsettled the Congress.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that the Congress will lose badly. As a result they are launching personal attacks.” He said the National Democratic Alliance would win more than 300 seats.

The BJP leader claimed that Mr. Modi had never lied about his marital status. “Not mentioning her name in the past was actually extending an honour to the lady.”
