Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said “We were closer to the realisation of an Asian century of peace, prosperity and stability than ever before” and “we have to work hard” to realise this vision.
Delivering the 37th Singapore Lecture to an elite gathering of over 1,000 people, Mr. Modi said Singapore had demonstrated that the size of a nation was no barrier to the scale of achievement. It had also proved that the lack of resources were no constraint for innovation, imagination and inspiration.
Stating that the architect of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew was a personal inspiration to him, Mr. Modi said it was with the same vision that “we are pursuing the transformation of India.”
The Prime Minister said his government had one set of policies to empower people and another set of policies to ensure that that enterprises would flourish and the potential of the people was unlocked.
“We are creating opportunities, reforming our laws, policies and institutions. We are moving on many fronts at the same time. For me, the emergence of India as the fastest growing economy in the world is important. It instils confidence,” the Prime Minister said.
According to Mr. Modi, after Japan, Singapore and Korea, India was the bright hope for sustaining Asian dynamism and sustainability. Commenting that China’s economic transformation was an inspiration, he said both India and China could advance each other’s progress.
