Modi assures CM of priest’s safety

The Afghanistan National Security Adviser had assured his Indian counterpart that Kabul was making full and sustained efforts to secure the swift and safe release of the >abducted Indian aid worker Rev. Alexis Prem Kumar , Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday.

Replying to Ms. Jayalalithaa’s letter of June 4, Mr. Modi said that he too was deeply concerned at the abduction of Fr. Alexis in Heart Province.

Mr. Modi also noted in his letter, copies of which were released to the media here, that the Indian envoy in Kabul was in touch with the President’s Office and the security agencies there.

Mr. Modi expressed the hope that the Chief Minister would fully appreciate that it was “an extremely delicate situation.’’ Mr. Modi promised the Chief Ministerthat he would monitor the situation “very closely,” said his letter.
