Indian Police Service officer M.S. Chauhan, who went missing from Tippi in West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh, was traced in Delhi on Sunday.
An official manning the Arunachal Pradesh police control room told The Hindu that there was just a one-line message that Mr. Chauhan had been traced in Delhi.
On Friday, the Arunachal government handed over the case of Mr. Chauhan’s disappearance to the SIT.
Mr. Chauhan left Itanagar for Tawang on October 16 and went missing from Tippi the next day. An IPS officer of Union Territory cadre, Mr. Chauhan, who probed the Rs. 1,000-crore scam in Public Distribution System (PDS) in the State, was transferred to Delhi on October 10.
Mr. Chauhan was heading the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) that was constituted in 2008 by the Arunachal government to probe the PDS scam at the directive of the Gauhati High Court, following a public interest litigation filed in 2004. The SIC found the involvement of 64 persons in the scam and filed chargesheets against them in the court of the Special Judge-cum-District Sessions Judge of Lakhimpur in Assam.
