Minor arrested for ‘abetting suicide of former lover’

November 21, 2013 03:13 am | Updated 03:13 am IST - Mumbai:

The Mumbai police has arrested a minor for abetment to suicide of his former lover.

The victim, a 9th standard student, had committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon by hanging herself from the ceiling of her bedroom in Kandivali in suburban Mumbai.

The arrest was made after the police recovered letters from the victim’s belongings, allegedly written to the accused, requesting him to end the relationship.

“The families were against the relationship and the girl’s family had asked her to end it. While the girl had made up her mind and ended up the relationship, the accused refused to call it quits and was persuading the girl to return. The girl couldn’t take the stress and therefore took the extreme step,” said investigating officer of the Kandivali police station, where the case has been registered.

The victim and the accused lived in the same locality and were in a relationship for around a year. The parents of both parties work as real-estate agents and confronted their kids when they learnt about the alleged affair and had asked them to end it, the police said.

The accused was produced in the Court of Juvenile Justice and sent to remand home.
