The Army has forwarded a proposal to the Defence Ministry to relax the terms and conditions of recruitment so that women officers can be given permanent commission, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh said on Tuesday.
He made the comments during an interaction over tea with the women officers and cadets and veterans who took part in the Republic Day parade on Monday.
Currently permanent commission is given only in the legal and education corps and all others are on short service commission and retire after 14 years of service.
The Hindu had on Monday reported on the pending affidavits in the Supreme Court on this issue.
General Singh also said the women contingents marching on Rajpath would be an annual feature from this year onwards.
