Ministers await PMO’s nod on office staff appointment

June 17, 2014 12:46 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:08 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Nearly three weeks after assuming office at the Centre, about eight Union Ministers, including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, are still waiting for the Prime Minister’s Office to approve appointment of their office staff.

Sources in the government said on Monday that files with proposals for appointment of private secretaries to the Ministers were still pending with the PMO. Fresh proposals, they said, would be sent to the PMO after it formally turns it down.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed his ministerial colleagues to carefully choose their office staff, refrain from choosing officers who had served as personal secretaries to ministers in the previous UPA government and avoid picking their family members for such posts.

“The matter is still pending with the PMO. We are still awaiting a decision,” sources in the Home Ministry said.
