Five service rifles were stolen in yet another raid by militants in south Kashmir on Sunday night. Police officials said militants in military fatigues attacked guards at a Doordarshan transmitter station in Dalvash village in Anantnag district.

Five service rifles, includes three SLRs, one INSAS and one carbine rifle, were stolen.

Many youths are suspected to have joined of joining the militants during the ongoing unrest following the killing of Burhan Wani on July 8. Police said local militants were short of weapons for the new recruits and were targeting political workers with guards, police stations and pickets guarding the minority community.

Sunday’s incident is the eighth such incident since July 8 in south Kashmir alone.
