2 LeT militants killed in Shopian

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed and another surrendered in a counter-militancy operation in the Barbugh area of Shopian.

The Shopian Police and 44 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army trapped the militants during searches on Saturday. Two militants were killed in the gunfight, said the police. The slain militants were identified as Altaf Ahmad Rather and Tariq Ahmad Bhat.

Both the slain terrorists were involved in attacks on policemen. Local people participated in the funeral of the militants.

Armed militants also attended the funeral of Bhat in Shopian. On Saturday, the first day of Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to the Valley, militants opened fire on a mobile police patrol near the Anantnag bus stand in south Kashmir, killing one policeman and injuring two others.

In another incident, militants attacked an army patrol in Shopian. “One militant was killed in the early exchange of fire,” the police said.
