Militant involved in Rajouri bus attack killed in encounter

A militant, who was involved in the attack on a passenger bus, was killed in a gunbattle with security forces and police in Rajouri district in Jammu on Sunday, a senior police officer said.

Acting on a tip off, troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Police launched a cordon and search operation in Rajdhani forest belt of Thanamandi tehsil of Rajouri district, IGP, Jammu Zone, Ashok Gupta told PTI here.

He said militants, hiding in the forests and maize fields, fired on the operation party. The security forces responded to the attack that led to an encounter this morning.

One militant has been killed in the gunbattle, he said.

The slain militant is believed to be one of those involved in the attack on the passenger bus at Der-Ki-Gali area of Thanamandi belt of Rajouri district on Wednesday in which two civilians died and 18 others, including two jawans, were injured.
