MHA officials to visit Manipur-Myanmar border

December 07, 2013 02:18 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:47 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Two senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs will visit the Manipur-Myanmar border on Saturday to ascertain the veracity of the Manipur government’s claims that border fencing was indeed taking place well within the Indian territory and whether it had provided an opportunity to the neighbouring country to grab a large part of Indian territory.

Sources in the Ministry said Joint Secretary (Border Management) Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Joint Secretary (North East) Shambhu Singh would visit Manipur to study the ground situation.

Ministry sources said the MHA officials would be accompanied by senior officials of the Assam Rifles, Border Roads Organisation and Surveyor-General of India during their visit.

The visit comes on the assurance given Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to an all-party delegation on December 4 that the issue will be probed.
