A Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) official has been questioned by police and other investigative agencies for allegedly having links to a suspected ISI agent caught spying from Rajasthan last month.

A section officer in MHA’s foreigners division, the official is said to be in contact with the ISI agent, Sumer Khan, who was arrested from Pokhran for allegedly passing on information about Indian Air Force’s exercise – named ‘Iron Fist’ – to an ISI operative in Pakistan.

Ministry sources said the official’s name allegedly figured in the call data records of the agent, a computer expert who has been charged by the Rajasthan police for passing on information “related to Indian defence installations and military activities” to Pakistan.

The MHA official is also being probed for helping certain persons get their visas extended, they said.
