On his maiden visit to the Delhi Metro on Monday, former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam described it as an “environment-friendly, user-friendly” option and termed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation “an asset to the nation”.
Mr. Kalam boarded the train at Central Secretariat metro station and travelled up to Rajiv Chowk where he saw the interchange arrangements for the Jahangirpuri–HUDA City Centre (Yellow Line) and the Dwarka Sector 21–Noida City Centre (Blue Line) corridors. From Rajiv Chowk, he travelled up to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg station to see the elevated section and then travelled back to Barakhamba Road on the underground section from where he went to DMRC’s corporate headquarters, Metro Bhavan.
He addressed the employees on “Dynamics of Leadership” and appreciated the Delhi Metro for maintaining a clean, safe and environment-friendly system. “The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been rightly certified by the United Nations as the first Metro rail and rail-based system in the world to get carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping in reducing carbon emissions in the city by 630,000 tonnes every year,” he said.
Mr. Kalam was accompanied during the visit by DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh, Director (Electrical) Satish Kumar, Director (Operations) Sharat Sharma and Director (Finance) K. K. Saberwal.
