National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon left for Dhaka for the second time in a week to sew up at least 15 agreements expected to be signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Bangladesh.
Mr. Menon, who returned to the national capital, interacted with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Advisers Gauhar Rizvi and Masihur Rehman on agreements on border and water sharing, which could end carping between the two sides on these issues. “The nature of the agreements is such that they need a lot of last-minute high-level interactions. They will keep us on tenterhooks till the last minute. There are a lot of issues that have still to be sorted out,'' said government sources, while explaining the reason for the NSA to visit Dhaka twice in quick succession.
Dr. Singh has signalled the high importance New Delhi attaches to his visit by including five Chief Ministers of States bordering Bangladesh, besides senior Cabinet Ministers, in his entourage.
