Police told the journalists that since Mirwaiz was under house arrest, no one was allowed to meet him.

“As Mirwaiz was supposed to address the press conference at 3 p.m. today, the authorities deployed a heavy contingent of forces to prevent him from addressing the press,” a spokesman for the Hurriyat said.

Mirwaiz plans to now address journalists through social media at 4.30 p.m.
