Mayawati: why is Modi mum on snooping episode?

November 23, 2013 01:21 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:57 pm IST - LUCKNOW:

Bahujan Samaj party president Mayawati on Friday questioned Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s continued silence on the alleged snooping on a woman architect in the State in 2009.

Ms. Mayawati said the Supreme Court should take cognisance of the episode and ensure that strict action was taken against those involved in it. The issue involved misuse of the official machinery, she told newsmen here. On Mr. Modi’s criticism, at rallies in Uttar Pradesh, of lack of development in the State, Ms. Mayawati reminded him that the BJP was also in power here and at the Centre, and wanted to know why no development work was taken up under its rule. Slamming the BJP for honouring its MLAs, Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana, who allegedly incited the recent Muzzafarnagar violence, she said the party’s “action will create a tense situation in the State.”
