Amid the political cacophony surrounding the recent developments following the pullout by the Trinamool Congress from the UPA and the reiteration of support to the government by Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati has maintained a studied silence.
Ms. Mayawati is here but has stayed away from the media, notwithstanding several attempts by journalists to find out whether the BSP would continue to extend outside support to the Manmohan government.
She has already stated that she will go public on the issue of hike in diesel price, retail FDI and cap on LPG cylinders only on October 9 when she addresses the “BSP Mahasankalp rally” at Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan here to mark the sixth death anniversary of her mentor, Kanshi Ram.
Whether the BSP will continue its support — it has 21 MPs in the Lok Sabha — would be known only on October 10 after the executive committee meeting of the party, she said on September 15.
