The Congress took to Twitter to criticise the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam in Jammu and Kashmir.

Newly-appointed Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken tweeted that the BJP did not care about its professed ideology.

“BJP trying to court PDP [Peoples Democratic Party]! Surprised?,” Mr. Maken tweeted.

He put out a screenshot of an old tweet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying, “NC [National Conference] and PDP are dynastic parties. Congress supports them alternatively and then says they are bad. J&K needs freedom from these 3 parties.”

In another tweet, Mr. Maken said, “BJP leaders don’t care about the publicly stated ideological/principled positions on SS [Shiv Sena], NCP [Nationalist Congress Party] & now PDP!”

In his tweet, All India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijaya Singh accused the BJP of taking a “U-Turn”.

“Masarat Alam released by PDP/BJP Govt. VHP opposes. PDP must clarify its decision and more so BJP allies in Govt. Double Standards of BJP!” he tweeted.

“On J&K a perfect U-Turn by BJP. No one can match BJP on U-Turns and doublespeak,” the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said in another tweet.
