Maoist attack: CPI(M) demands high-level enquiry

May 27, 2013 07:41 pm | Updated 07:41 pm IST - New Delhi

Terming it as an example of the ‘latest and most shocking politics of violence and terror’ practiced by the Maoists against their political opponents, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has ‘strongly condemned’ the attack on the Congress party convoy in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district on Saturday night.

In a statement, the CPI (M) politburo demanded a ‘high-level enquiry’, and firm action to stop ‘Maoist depredations’. It also called upon ‘all democratic forces to fight the politics of violence by the Maoists’.

The party held the state government ‘answerable for reported lack of security arrangements for the yatra’. Referring to the Saturday incident, the statement said, “On the one hand the BJP government allows the killing of tribals...in the name of fighting the Maoists and on the other hand it utterly fails to protect legitimate democratic activities in the state.”
