Renowned singer Manna Dey was hospitalised in the city following a chest infection on Saturday.

Though his condition was said to be critical when he was admitted to Narayana Hrudayalaya, he is stable now.

The playback singer, who has a repertoire of 3,500 songs, turned 94 on May 1. He was under medical supervision at his Bangalore home but was shifted to the hospital when his condition deteriorated.

Narayana Hrudayalaya authorities did not wish to divulge any information about the singer’s condition as the family wanted privacy in the matter. Mr. Dey lost his wife, Sulochana, 88, who was suffering from cancer, in January this year.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the singer in April as he was not keeping well. She has also said that her government would felicitate the playback singer with the ‘Maha Sangeet Samman’ award.
