Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left for home on Monday after a three-day visit here during which India and Saudi Arabia signed an extradition treaty and several pacts to raise their cooperation to a strategic partnership covering areas of security, economic, energy and defence.
Mr. Singh held wide-ranging discussions with the Saudi King Abdullah and other senior leaders during the first visit by a Indian Prime Minister to the oil-rich kingdom in 28 years.
He and the Saudi King signed the Riyadh Declaration outlining the contours of a new era of strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Prime Minister also addressed the influential Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Majlis-al-Shura or the Saudi Consultative Council during the visit. He was conferred an honorary doctorate by the country’s prestigious King Saud University.
Mr. Singh arrived here on Saturday along with his wife Gursharan Kaur to a rousing welcome from the Saudi Government as the entire Cabinet, including three brothers of King Abdullah, received them at the King Khalid International Airport.
