Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday spoke to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to convey that India attached the highest importance to bilateral relations. Dr. Singh said that a strong partnership between the two countries was in the interest of the people of both countries and the whole of South Asia.

His call to Ms. Hasina came soon after External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna announced that he would be travelling to Bangladesh to review the entire gamut of relationship between the two neighbours during his July 6-8 visit ahead of Dr. Singh's official visit in September.

During his conversation, Dr. Singh said that he looked forward to the September 6-7 visit and Ms. Hasina responded that the people of Bangladesh were eagerly awaiting his visit and had high expectations that it would be a historic one.
