Manmohan announces Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia to quake victims

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday announced Rs. 2 lakh as ex-gratia to next of kin of those killed in the earthquake and Rs. 1 lakh each for those seriously injured.

“The Prime Minister has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the persons deceased and Rs. 1 lakh each to those seriously injured,” officials in the Prime Minister’s Office said.

More than 30 people were killed and over a hundred injured in the 6.8-magnitude temblor which has caused extensive damage to buildings and roads in Sikkim and several other places in the eastern parts of the country.
