Manipur police honour 5 sportspersons

The Police Department in Manipur honoured five sportspersons, who had participated in the London Olympics, with cash awards in a special function in Imphal on Saturday. The Olympians are Mary Kom. Bombayla, Soniya, Kotharjit and Devendro. Mary Kom was given Rs. 5 lakh while the four others were given Rs. 1 lakh each. Mary Kom is an Additional Superintendent of Police in Manipur. The simple but impressive function was held in the banquet hall of I Manipur Rifles in Imphal.

Home Minister G. Gaikhangam, the chief guest, said the international players should do everything possible to brighten their sports career. They should set examples to budding players.

Speaking on the sidelines, Mary Kom and others told journalists that they would work hard for the next four years so that they would bring laurels from the next Olympics games.
