Imphal West district police commandos on Tuesday rescued Thongam Dolan, the engineering supervisor of Manipur University abducted and held captive by militants for 5 days demanding a ransom of Rs. 72 lakh.

Two militants of the outlawed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) said to be involved in the kidnapping were arrested along with a 9 mm pistol and 5 live rounds of ammunition.

Talking to journalists, L. Kailun, the SP of Imphal West district said that though Mr. Dolan was kidnapped on November 11 morning there was no formal complaint from the family members and that was the reason behind the inordinate delay in the rescue operation. However on receipt of information the police acted. Mr. Kailun said the engineering supervisor was held captive at the foot of the Arabati mountain in the Imphal East district. No shots were fired during the operation.
