The Amravati rural police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old man in the Chikhaldara block in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old mentally challenged girl three months ago.

According to the police, Ganesh Hiralal Bhilavekar of Biju Dhavadi, who had allegedly taken the girl to a forest near his village and raped her, also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. But her parents lodged a police complaint when they came to know about it.

A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused.
