West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday warned those trying to ‘conspire' against her and her government, saying that people would not pardon such conspirators.
“I am not engaged in any wrongdoing, but I do not tolerate any wrongdoing either, ” she said on a day when there was outcry in the city, over the arrest of a university professor who forwarded emails with a reference to the Chief Minister.
“I am not bothered about who is saying what to increase their TRP ratings,” she said.
As a matter of fact, suspicions of ‘conspiracy' against her and alleged canards being spread by her detractors to discredit her was Ms. Banerjee's theme in her speeches throughout a day when she launched various programmes in Bardhaman and Purulia districts.
“You had your chance for 35 years — you did not work…we will keep you well, give you food, clothing and shelter,” she said in an indirect reference to the coalition that ran the previous government, even as she sent out an appeal to her detractors to let her government work.
The government will not tolerate any effort to derail its development agenda. “Development will be supported and so will the private sector if it does good work,” the Chief Minister said.
“In a month, as we complete a year in office, we will have fulfilled all our poll promises,” she said, adding that the remaining four years would be spent in development. “West Bengal will go towards a golden era,” she told the cheering crowd that had gathered on the occasion of the launch of a hospital and a school project in Durgapur, the industrial town in the State's Bardhaman district. She exhorted the private sector group which had acquired 100 acres to implement the project to expedite matters and set up the facilities soon.
Laying the foundation stone for the integrated project, she said that while the diagnostic facilities are expected to be readied first, the hospital would follow. “It would be a general hospital which would be run by Dr. Devi Shetty — he is well-known. I hope people will now come to Durgapur instead of rushing to Vellore and Chennai for medical treatment.”
Airstrips & helipads
She also said that the government had invited expressions of interest (EOI) for setting up airstrips and helipads at smaller towns and one such was also proposed to be set up in the Durgapur-Asansol belt.
Later at another programme at Barjora in Bankura, Ms. Banerjee said that she believed in speed in her work and expected everyone else to complete their work fast.
She assured the gathering that industries would come up in this area and employment would be generated for everybody.
Launching a coal project, she said that for the first time a State agency, (the West Bengal Mineral Development Corporation) would be engaged in mining coal. An IT hub was also launched.
Backlog cleared
Earlier, she distributed caste certificates, claiming that a backlog of one lakh cards had been cleared by her government in months.

Actions like these bring bad name to regional parties.
I am up for the freedom of speech, whether it is ignoring the basic etiquette of the public life or it is aligning with practices of other parties. Out of hatred for particular party or person, I would not let system to undermine the freedom of speech. If you believe in democracy, you have to believe it fully. Half measures do not help. Standing up against parties based on single person must be thrown out of the power. It is dangerous precedence.
When TMC is seen limping from one crisis to other, the present arrest of Professor may offer another ammunition for Mamata to take cover under conspiragcy theory. That similar ammunition is devoid of any fire thanks to the loss of credibility of the government neither does salvage its sagging popularity nor does it cleanse the grime that comes into focus one by one. The brimming ire against Left party buries deep the moral and political values. Septicism leads to wrong focus
Terrible. Is she instigating her partymen to launch assaault on people speaking the truth.By getting the railway minister changed, her credibility suffered, and now the integrity. What a leader sans leadership qualities.
It is not whether she is bothered or not but is she concerned with
rights of people and concern for the people, taking into account what
has happened in the state and what she can do with a submissive UPA
In India most of the political parties are based on Individual Charisma. (Like Sonia/Rahul(INC), Pawar(NCP), Mamata(TMC), Chandrababu (TDP), Karunanidhi&Family(DMK) and Jayalalitha (AIDMK). Party activities revolve around these individuals when they are in power or in opposition. Even a small critic of these leaders get a reply of Tsunami. But I think except TMC all others have enjoyed direct power in state couples of times and used to such experiences. TMC just came to power and they do not understand what Govt should do and shouldn't do; Few examples like Mamatha was leading a protest (Rally) on hooch deaths, she was directly giving commands in AMRI instance, Rly minister Issue, Banning English papers in Govt funded Lib...As a first time CM, i think She will learn what Govt should not do...
Over reaction by Govt Servants and Party workers is at its best to impress their Leader. I think Court should Teach a Good Lesson by giving heafty fine.
There is nothing wrong in Mamata getting the Prof. arrested for sending mails to sites which purport to be of bad language against Mamata. When some pictures of Sonia were published in social sites Congress cried foul and even dragged them to court and got the sites removing the pictures of Sonia. Then what is the problem for Congress in this.Sibal was the pioneer in that compaign.Manish is known for his blabberings and need not be taken seriously. So there be no two yardsticks for Sonia and Mamata and Congress has no locus standi on the issue.I am not for Mamata who is known for lack of capacity to govern but Congress need not take a holisitic view of the matter.
The people of Bengal went from the frying pan into the fire when they chose Mamata Banerjee. It is sad that we are faced with such poor leadership choices.
Mamata has already created a ready made excuse for her grandiose failure. She can blame the left. Why does she not concentrate on her development agenda (if she has any)? Let her know that the CM's seat is not a cosy seat. She is behaving like Don Quixote fighting windmills and her party is her Sancho Pancha. She should jolly well remember that she was not given a massive mandate for wasting her time. Many of her whimsical activities can be quahsed by the judiciary and I do not know whether she will claim that judiciary has been purchased by Left. She sees ghosts everywhere. A symptom of not being sure of herself.
Foolishness begets foolishness. Accusing the CPI(M) of this is giving them too much credit!
Evidently Mamata is suffering from persecution mania! Bengal is
paying for the terrible mistake of having elected some one with megalomania. Left party combine are happy lot now and can now start
counting days to recapture the power sooner than later.
She is such a big joker. Oh will I be arrested too :
