A fire broke out in a Gorakhpur government hospital, the same venue where 30 children died in 2017 due to the alleged lack of oxygen supply.

Fire broke out in the administrative wing of the Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur on Monday morning.

As per initial accounts, the principal’s office and the record room of the hospital were engulfed in flames.

The patients are said to be safe.

Senior officials and police officers have reached the spot and seven fire tenders are being used to douse the fire.

The damage done by the fire, especially to files stored in the hospital, is not yet known. The hospital was at the heart of a major controversy last year after 30 infants died allegedly due to the short supply of oxygen as the oxygen firm refused to supply oxygen as their dues were not paid by the government.
