Main accused in Meerut gang-rape case held

The main accused in the alleged gang-rape and religious conversion of a 20-year-old part-time school teacher in Meerut district was arrested on Wednesday.

IG (Law and Order) Amrendra Kumar Sengar said Sanaullah was arrested from near the Sohrab Gate bus station in Meerut. He said Sanaullah was wanted in connection with a case registered at the Kharkhaunda police station.

A reward of Rs. 5,000 was declared on his head by the Meerut SSP.

Mr. Sengar said all the seven accused named in the two FIRs have been arrested.

When asked about Sanaullah’s role in the episode, he said the case is under investigation.

Meanwhile, in a bid to check incidents of sexual harassment at the workplace, the State Government has amended the UP Government Servant (Discipline and Appeal) Rules and issued a government order in this regard last week.
