A National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) officer has been allegedly attacked in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra for trying to recover money from the doctors who were named in a NRHM scam by Nagpur Divisional Commissioner two years ago.
District Programme Manager (DPM) of the NRHM Archana Wankhede was attacked when she and new Zilla Parishad CEO of Gadchiroli Ruchesh Jaiwanshi decided to recover around Rs. 2.70 crore from 21 medical officers allegedly involved in the scam.
According to Ms. Wankhede, she was attacked by an unknown person on March 11. He allegedly threatened her “recovery karegi?” (Will u do recovery?).
Earlier, Ms. Wankhede alleged that members of the district health committee misbehaved with her during a committee meeting.
But president of the district planning committee Tamdev Dudhbale has denied the allegations.
“No one from the committee misbehaved with her. Her charge that someone from the committee was involved in the attack is also baseless” he said.
Gadchiroli ZP president Bhagyashree Atram denied the charges levelled by the NRHM officer against the district health committee members.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) Gadchiroli has started a probe.
Ms. Wankhede has been given written instructions by Mr. Jaiwanshi, asking her not to speak to the media as an enquiry is on.
“As far as the NRHM scam is concerned, we have the list of the doctors involved and we will recover money from them,” Mr. Jaiwanshi told The Hindu.
