Preparing for government formation in Haryana and Maharashtra, the National Parliamentary Board of the Bharatiya Janata Party will send senior leaders Rajnath Singh and J.P. Nadda as observers to Maharashtra while Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and party vice-president Dinesh Singh are being sent to Haryana to elect a leader for the newly elected MLAs and a chief ministerial candidate. The two hour-long meeting of the Board, attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adopted a resolution thanking the people of Maharashtra and Haryana for the victory.

“Modi wave has become a tsunami,” a beaming BJP President Amit Shah told reporters at a press conference after it became clear that the party had won 47 seats out of 90 in Haryana and 122 out of 288 seats in Maharashtra.

As BJP workers celebrated with beating of drums and bursting of crackers at the party headquarters here, Mr. Shah said that the party would form government in Maharashtra and Haryana and would have BJP Chief Ministers in both the states.

“Unprecedented”

Describing the victories in the two States as ‘unprecedented’, Mr. Shah said they were a success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and governance at the Centre. Having pushed the rival Congress to third position in both the states, we have taken “two steps forward in making the two states free of the Congress,’’ he said.

Buoyed by the success in the two states, Mr. Shah said that the BJP was all set to repeat its performance in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir where elections are to be held before next January.
