Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the House that India had conveyed to Pakistan in the “strongest possible words” its shock at this development.

India asked Pakistan to ensure that the bail granted to the chief accused conspirator in the 26/11 attack in Mumbai, Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, is reversed even as a united Lok Sabha denounced it.

Intervening in the discussion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the House that India had conveyed to Pakistan in the “strongest possible words” its shock at this development. (The message was conveyed to the Pakistan Foreign Office by Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad TCA Raghavan, it is learnt.)

Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, making a statement on the issue, said “We do not accept … that Lakhvi, who is the 26/11 mastermind and has been declared an international terrorist by the U.N., is released on bail ... We demand that the Pakistani government should have this decision overturned immediately. We are keeping a watch on its response.”

Stressing that the Pakistan government, by furnishing evidence, must ensure that those behind the Mumbai massacre were punished, she said, “We reject this argument that there is lack of adequate evidence.”
