Love for a Pakistani woman — stated to be a model — drove an Indian youth to try illegally go across the border before he ended up in a jail.
Deepak Chander (24) was nabbed by the Indian Customs Department at Attari Railway station on Thursday when he was attempting to board the Samjautha Express to Pakistan without passport and visa.
Assistant Customs Commissioner Custom V.K. Mahajan said Deepak, a post graduate in MCA and a resident of the M.M.M. Engineering College in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended when he had attempted to cross over to Pakistan by the train.
Mahajan said Deepak, during his long interrogation here on Friday, claimed he fell in love with Pakistani model Naina Chaudhary during an internet chat. When she said that if he loved her he must try to reach Pakistan at any cost, Deepak, without applying his mind, attempted to cross into Pakistan.
A court here in the evening set Deepak free after slapping a Rs. 1,000 fine on him. His lawyer, D.K Sharma, said the court took a lenient view as he was a student.
