Lot of good writing going around: jury

January 18, 2015 12:15 am | Updated November 28, 2021 07:40 am IST - CHENNAI:

Contemporary poet K. Satchidanandan said here on Saturday that the panel of judges for selecting a work for The Hindu Prize given away during the Lit for Life 2015 festival here had to read through over a 100 books to narrow down on the six short-listed works.

Ashok Srinivasan was selected for prize for his debut collection of 13 short stories, Book of Common Signs , here on Saturday

“We are happy a lot of good writing is going around and hope that things like what happened to Perumal Murugan will not be repeated in this country. Githa Hariharan and I, with support from other authors, have decided to launch a forum of creative writers, scholars and artists,” Mr. Satchidanandan said.

Mr. Srinivasan, whose stories have appeared in various anthologies and periodicals in India, Australia (Luna and Helix) and England (The Stand, Newcastle-upon-Tyne), had been the Director of the Indian Cultural Centre in the Indian Embassy in Surinam after a career in publishing.

He thanked those who chose his work for the award. His next book, a novel, Once upon a Time, a savage fairy tale for adults, was being readied for press.
