Uproar over remarks against Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and demands for revocation of suspension of six Congress leaders led to the Lok Sabha being adjourned for the day on Tuesday, without any substantial business being transacted.

Mr. Scindia said in the House that BJP members Virendra Kumar and Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan had in his absence made some false allegations against him regarding treatment of Dalits. Stoutly refuting their charges, he said that he would quit the Lok Sabha if the allegations were true, and so should the BJP members if their claims were found to be untrue.

“My image has been tarnished,” Mr. Scindia said, adding that he had for 15 years worked tirelessly for all sections of society.

Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge also defended Mr. Scindia, saying he had fought for Dalits in the House for 15 years. Mr. Scindia and some members of the Congress also rushed into the well to protest. As the din continued, Ms. Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.
