Srinagar Security forces on Tuesday arrested a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and busted a militant hideout in Kashmir valley as another group of ultras exhanged fire with a police party in Baramulla in separate incidents.

The LeT militant identified as Ashiq Ahmad Lone alias “Setha”, a resident of Haf-Shirmal village of Shopian, was arrested from Anantnag district headquarters, 55 km from here, in South Kashmir, a police spokesman said.

Lone was active for the last couple of years and was arrested on specific information, he said.

No arms were recovered from the militant at the time of his arrest, the officer said, adding his interrogation might lead to arrest of some more ultras and recovery of weapons, he said.

In another operation, the spokesman said, police assisted by Rashtriya Rifles busted a militant hideout when they raided the house of one Abdul Rashid Mir at Surasyar, 20 km from here, in Budgam district.

The search of the hideout led to the recovery of 49 Ak rounds, a detonator, an AK combination tool, three blankets, a gas cylinder and some kitchen items, he said, adding no one was arrested.

Meanwhile, certain suspected militants travelling in a three-wheeler opened fire on a police party at Fedarpora in Rafiabad, 65 km from here, in Baramulla district in the wee hours on Tuesday.

The police personnel retaliated, forcing the ultras to flee, the spokesman said, adding the driver of the load carrier was arrested and the vehicle seized.
