A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed on Monday during an operation in Pulwama district of Kashmir.

Security forces encircled Pulwama's Samboora area on Sunday evening following information that militants were hiding there. A police official said a gunfight erupted after security forces came under fire from militants.

“In the encounter, one Pakistani LeT terrorist known as Umer of the Abu Ismail group was killed,” the police said.

The role of Umer in different crimes committed by Abu Ismail group is being ascertained, the police said, adding “One  AK 47 rifle has been recovered from  the encounter  site.”

Sources said two other militants managed to escape from the encounter site, taking advantage of darkness and heavy volley of fire.
