Communist Party of India (Marxist) general-secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday said the Left parties would support the erstwhile > Janata Parivar’s recent move to unite to counter the Bharatiya Janata Part y. The CPI(M) leader also charged the Narendra Modi government with “anti-poor and anti-people policies” against which, he declared, all the Left parties would participate in a protest march on November 26.
“We welcome the move of old Janata Parivar leaders to come on a common platform. Unity of all secular forces is the need of the hour to save the country from communal forces,” said Prakash Karat, who was in Patna to attend a public hearing for the release of a survey conducted by the CPI(Marxist-Leninist).
Mr. Karat further added that his party would support the ruling party Janata Dal (United) in Parliament to strengthen the unity of secular forces but “our party is yet to make a decision on making an alliance with the JD(U) in the upcoming State Assembly elections.”
The CPI(M) general-secretary also criticised the Modi government’s move to slash funds to the States under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
He also said Tripura, which had been among the best-performing States in the implementation of MGNREGA by generating 88 days of employment for rural families as against the 45 days national average, would be badly affected with the 47 per cent reduction in allocation of funds under the scheme.
Labour laws On the government’s move for labour law reforms, he said, “It will lead to severe retrenchment of labourers in every segment of industrial activities in the country.”
The CPI(M) leader declared that all the Left parties would observe a “Pratishodh Divas” (protest day) across the country on November 26 and gherao Parliament to register their protest against the “anti-poor and anti-people policies of the Modi government”.
