Leaders condole death of ISRO’s renowned space scientist UR Rao

His remarkable contribution to India's space programme will never be forgotten, the Prime Minister tweets

Former ISRO Chairman Udipi Ramachandra Rao passed away on Monday morning. The celebrated space scientist was the fourth Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) during its critical formative years between 1984 and 1994.

Various leaders expressed their condolences to the man who had made great contributions to the development of space technology and its extensive application to communications and remote sensing of natural resources. Here are a few of their tweets.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that U.R. Rao’s contribution to the India’s space programme will never be forgotten.

“Saddened by demise of renowned scientist, Professor UR Rao. His remarkable contribution to India's space programme will never be forgotten.” he tweeted.

 

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s official twitter handle: “From the launch of Aryabhatta to the MOM [Mars Orbiter Mission], Prof. UR Rao's contributions have taken @isro to unparalleled heights. Very sad to learn of his demise”

BJP national president Amit Shah: “My deepest condolences on the sad demise of Professor UR Rao. His contribution to India's space research programme was remarkable.”

 

Home Minister Rajnath Singh: “Professor UR Rao led India's space research programme to unprecedented heights. His contribution was remarkable. I'm saddened by his demise.”

Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan: “Professor UR Rao was one of the pioneers who made immense contributions to the Indian Space Program. Sad to learn he passed away today.”

 

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan: “Saddened by the news of death of former @isro Chairman & architect of India's space technology Prof. U.R. Rao. My prayers are with the family.”
