Lawyer Santosh Kumar shouts slogans against increase in diesel prices during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's address at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi Saturday.

Supreme Court advocate Santosh Kumar Suman created a flutter during an international conference at Vigyan Bhawan here on Saturday. Even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh moved to the dais to deliver his inaugural address, Mr. Suman stood on the desk, took off his shirt and shouted, “Prime Minister, go back. Roll back diesel prices.”

Unperturbed, Dr. Singh waited for a while as security officials whisked the lawyer away from the plenary hall.

According to the police, Mr. Suman had come to the conference with a proper invitation card.

Devesh K. Pandey reports:

Suman, who lives at Shakarpur in East Delhi, was subjected to joint interrogation by the police and intelligence officials. “He was let off after verification of his antecedents,” said a Delhi Police officer.
