The Law and Justice Ministry late on Thursday night cleared the notification for the implementation of the recommendations of the Wage Boards for journalists and other employees of newspapers/news agencies and sent it to the Labour and Employment Ministry for gazetting it.

Labour Minister Mallikarujun Kharge, who is in Bangalore, told The Hindu on Friday that it would be only a matter of one or two days before the notification was issued as he was yet to receive the file. “I will clear it as soon as I receive it.”

On October 25, the Cabinet approved the Boards' recommendations relating to wages and allowances. The Labour Ministry had sent the approval to the legislation section of the Law and Justice Ministry for vetting.

Justice G.R. Majithia, who headed the Wage Boards, in his recommendation, said the revised basic pay, variable pay at the rate of 35 per cent, and DA must be implemented from July 1, 2010, and the HRA, transport, night shift, medical and other allowances from the date of issuance of gazette notification.
